Psychological safety
Psychological Safety – MYTH #2

If you missed Myth #1, you can find it here.
Now for MYTH #2 (drum roll please..): “Having psychological safety means we lower our standards and don’t have as much accountability.”
This is a a BIG MYTH.
Arising from mistakenly putting Psychological Safety and Accountability on either end of a single spectrum.
“Either we’re safe OR we have high standards for excellence!”
In actuality, these are best thought of on two different dimensions.
It is possible to have high Safety and low Accountability, which is the Comfort Zone.
It is also possible to have low Safety and high Accountability, which is the Anxiety Zone.
Neither are helpful!
It is equally possible to have both high Safety and high Accountability.
THE LEARNING ZONE!
You could also call it the HIGH PERFORMANCE ZONE.
The zone where agility and adaptability in Projects & Delivery can thrive.
The zone where shared alignment and team-ownership are living and breathing!
The zone where our chances for project success and stakeholder and customer satisfaction are greatest!
Let’s all spend more time in the Learning Zone!
